US resumes funding for Radio Liberty - court decision
After the court decision, signed by Senior Advisor to the head of the USAGM (US Agency for Global Media) Carrie Lake, the United States resumed funding for Radio Liberty. The official noted that the decision of March 15 has been canceled, and the grant agreement is back in force. This was reported by The Department of State The Department of State.
The day before, a US federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration's attempt to close Radio Liberty.
This decision comes a day after a ruling by U.S. District of Columbia Judge Royce Lambert, who granted Radio Liberty's motion for a temporary restraining order against the USAGM - reports "Radio Liberty."
"USAGM leadership cannot, with a single sentence and minimal justification, force RFE/RL (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) to shut down - even if the president ordered them to do so," wrote U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lambert.
According to the official report USAGM, $153 million was allocated to finance Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in 2025. The remaining part of the grant is calculated until September 30, 2025.
"Now is not the time for Radio Liberty to go silent. Millions of people rely on us as a source of factual information in places where censorship is widespread. We must not cede ground to our adversaries at a time when threats to America are growing," commented on the court's decision, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty President and CEO Stephen Capus said.
